Athletes, chefs team up for COC

Canada’s finest chefs will be getting together with some of Canada’s finest Olympic athletes for dinner at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler Nov. 6.

The Gold Medal Plates dinner will be the last in a series of fund-raising dinners held across the country for the Canadian Olympic Committee. The top chefs, as chosen by diners at each of the dinners, will go head-to-head for top honours at the Whistler dinner.

A dinner in Vancouver on Nov. 3 will feature chefs Rob Feenie of Lumiere, David Hawksworth of West, Vikram Vij of Vij’s, Robert LeCrom of 900 West, James Walt of Araxi, Hidekazu Tojo of Tojo’s, Robert Clark of C, Pino Posteraro of Cioppino’s and Vincent Stufano of Whistler’s Wildflower.

The Whistler Gold Medal Plates dinner will feature the best chefs and many of Canada’s best Olympic athletes. As well, Canadian tenor Michael Burgess will perform. A silent auction will also be part of the evening.

Tickets for the Whistler dinner are $750. Tickets for a VIP party on Friday, Nov. 5 are $75.

Tickets for the Vancouver dinner are $250.

Proceeds go to the Canadian Olympic Committee’s Excellence Fund for Canada’s Olympic Athletes, which hopes to raise $3 million from the dinners over the next few years.

Wine’d Up with Search and Rescue

The annual gourmet dinner to benefit Whistler Search and Rescue will take place on Saturday, Oct. 16.

The event, which includes dinner and an auction, will take place at Dusty’s.

Billed as Wine’d Up, the five course dinner will be prepared by one of Whistler’s most renowned chefs, Bernard Casavant and will feature The Wines of Robert Mondavi.

The auction items include a painting by David Langevin and a tour of The Robert Mondavi Winery.
