Whistler Chamber of Commerce has new interim president.

Longtime local John Nadeau is taking over as interim president of the Whistler Chamber of Commerce this week.

Nadeau left his position as senior manager, Whistler area, for the North Shore Credit recently when the company did some restructuring.

He is already very familiar with the Chamber, having served for seven years as a board member.

"It is very exciting," said Nadeau. "And it is a pretty good segue as I am familiar with the board and the members and the staff."

Nadeau admits there will be a period of adjustment as he settles into his six-month interim position.

"I think your role changes when you go from being on the board into an operating position so I have to have a look and see what lies ahead," he said.

"We do have a strategic planning meeting coming up in November which … will allow us to have some direction for the coming year."

Nadeau had been with North Shore Credit Union for nine years and in the financial services sector with Canada Trust and the Bank of Montreal for a total of 24 years.

"I will miss my relationship with the staff and the clients at the credit union, but I have a new opportunity here," said Nadeau, who also serves on the board of Saint John’s Ambulance and the Community Foundation of Whistler.

Nadeau believes the Chamber’s role is: "to be an advocate for business in Whistler."

With that in mind he wants to work in the coming years to make sure the resort is ready for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

"We want to make sure that business in Whistler is prepared," he said.
