Lumpy’s Epic Run this weekend

This Saturday, Oct. 23, marks the fifth anniversary of Lumpy’s Epic Run in Pemberton, a 12 km walk, jog or run on the Lumpy’s Epic trail.

Eric "Lumpy" Leidal was a popular mountain biker and skier who died in an avalanche in 1998. The trail was completed the following year as a memorial to Lumpy, and ever since locals from Whistler and Pemberton have taken part in the event.

The course itself is a moderately technical mountain bike trail with some good hills in both directions, and spectacular views of Green River and Mount Currie. The fastest runners complete the course in under an hour, while some of the slower walkers and joggers take two hours or more to finish.

This year proceeds will go towards the local cross-country skiing club, the Pemberton Spud Valley Nordics.

The cost is $15 to enter, and includes a post-race potluck.

Registration gets underway at One Mile Lake in Pemberton at approximately 9:30 a.m. and the run starts at 10 a.m.
