Smart Growth is a collection of urban development strategies to reduce sprawl through environmental and socially responsible development. Its currently working in Squamish on a new Smart Growth on the Ground initiative, which kicked off with a meeting on Oct. 14 that was attended by 85 members of the community. The main focus of that meeting was the Squamish Downtown Waterfront Concept Plan.
The $50,000 will go towards developing the transit component of the overall plan.
A series of workshops is being planned for Nov. 24-25 at the Howe Sound Brew Pub, and all are open to residents, developers, businesses, education interests, recreation and environment groups, youth, and various civic and social groups from the community.
