Students in the Simon Fraser University writers program will read from their work at BBKs Pub in the Upper Village on Sunday, Nov. 7 from 3 to 5 p.m.
The event supports the release of Emerge literary magazine, a copy of which is included with the events $10 cover charge.
Also on Sunday is the festivals introductory writing workshop with instructor Laisha Rosnau, author of best selling novel The Sudden Weight of Snow (2002) and a short fiction and poetry instructor at UBC.
Rosnau will guide participants through the process of transforming raw inspiration, material and ideas into finished works. The workshop takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Alta Lake School and requires a $50 registration fee. Registration includes a copy of the instructors book and the latest edition of The Vicious Circle Journal, a collection of works by members of the Whistler Writers Group.
The festival picks up again next weekend with a masters workshop, publishing workshops and more readings.
