Writers Fest continues Sunday with readings and workshop

The Whistler Writers Festival continues this weekend with more public readings and the first of its writing workshops.

Students in the Simon Fraser University writers program will read from their work at BBK’s Pub in the Upper Village on Sunday, Nov. 7 from 3 to 5 p.m.

The event supports the release of Emerge literary magazine, a copy of which is included with the event’s $10 cover charge.

Also on Sunday is the festival’s introductory writing workshop with instructor Laisha Rosnau, author of best selling novel The Sudden Weight of Snow (2002) and a short fiction and poetry instructor at UBC.

Rosnau will guide participants through the process of transforming raw inspiration, material and ideas into finished works. The workshop takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Alta Lake School and requires a $50 registration fee. Registration includes a copy of the instructor’s book and the latest edition of The Vicious Circle Journal, a collection of works by members of the Whistler Writer’s Group.

The festival picks up again next weekend with a masters workshop, publishing workshops and more readings.
