Whistler skiers to train with the best

Last week B.C. Alpine announced this year’s group of K1 (age 11-12) and K2 (age 13-14) athletes and coaches that will train with the fourth annual Best to the Best (B2B) program at Apex.

Several Whistler Mountain Ski Club athletes were among those chosen to participate, training with the top racers from clubs around the province.

"The goal of this camp is to get a small cross section of our most skilled athletes in the province together for skill benchmarking purposes," explained Gordie Bowles, B.C. Alpine Program Director.

"Due to the size of our province our athletes may only see each other two or three times per season – and that is only in a racing environment like the Provincials – so it is critical to allow clubs and coaches to benchmark skill levels in a training environment. The ultimate goal is that the commitment to excellence and the skill level is increased within B.C. Alpine clubs through education, awareness and exposure to the provinces best athletes and coaches."

The camp is scheduled for Nov. 25-28, with 32 athletes taking part.

Selection to Alpine Canada Alpin’s "K2 Project" camp, which lets top K2 athletes train with members of the national and development teams, will be determined by performance at the B2B camp.
