LUNA gets wet for Welcome Week

Welcome to Whistler all you fresh-faced newbies. Perhaps you’ve heard of our healthy nightclub scene?

What: Moist II

Where: Meadow Park Sports Centre

When: Thursday, Nov. 18

Tickets: $2/$4

Although if you indulge too much your lifestyle will be anything but. You won’t be fresh-faced for long.

Lucky there’s LUNA – Late and Unique Nighttime Alternatives for young adults. When the rowdy factor got a little out of hand a couple years ago Whistler Community Services created LUNA to offer alcohol-free events for the barhopping crowd.

LUNA started as an outdoor summer film series but has since expanded to include hockey and climbing nights, breakdance and martial arts nights, indoor movie nights, and the popular pool parties, such as Thursday’s Moist II – a welcome week event back by popular demand.

Affordable is also part of the LUNA agenda. Sign up for a membership card and get into events for the ridiculously low price of $2. No card? It’ll cost you $4.

So ditch the bottle on Thursday night and float around in the pool or hot tub to DJ Phroh’s dancehall, reggae and breakbeat tracks instead. The event also features dancers from Soul Funktion Dance Studio, a snackbar and Thai massage practitioners.

The next LUNA event following Moist II is a screening of the 2001 Whistler-based documentary film Ski Bums on Friday, Nov. 19 at MY (Millennium) Place.
