B.C. Snowboard seeking coach for First Nations program

The B.C. Snowboard Association is looking for a new coach to lead a group of young riders from the Squamish and Lil’wat First Nations, creating the first ever First Nations Snowboard Team in the province.

The four month contract for a freestyle coach runs from December of 2004 to March of 2005. The coach will oversee athletes in the halfpipe and snowboard cross disciplines. The qualified candidate will have a Level II NCCP certification in snowboard or an acrobatic sport, experience competing or coaching at the national level, strong interpersonal skills, and administrative experience in making travel arrangements and tracking expenses.

Most of the coaching will take place on weekends in either Whistler or on the Lower Mainland mountains, although some travel in the province is possible for provincial competitions.

If you’re interested, submit your application to Aaron Marchant, the First Nations Snowboard Team co-ordinator, at amarchant@squamish.net. Applications will be accepted until Friday, Dec. 17.
