The K1 group (ages 11-12) did some freeskiing and worked on race skills. The kids also skied a run with their boots undone, learning how to use the sweet spot on the skis to make them turn. Fun was the emphasis for the weekend.
"The kids ripped up the mountain, they worked hard and had a great time. It couldn’t have gone better," said K1 head coach Willy Raine.
The K2 group, (ages 13-14) was also on the mountain, with four rookies coming along. The theme for the weekend was speed, and all of the kids kept up.
The coaching emphasized decision-based skiing – letting athletes see the cause and effect of their skis on the snow.
"Our drills mostly revolved around stance, balance and edging this weekend," said coach Andre Janyk. "It is important to give these athletes a good base at the start of the season, and build it from there."
The Rookie Camp only ran for the weekend, with participants getting two full days of coaching for $25.
