Stuff the Bus is back

Whistler and Valley Express to collect for Food Bank

The Whistler and Valley Express will be hosting its annual Stuff the Bus food drive for the Whistler Food Bank this Saturday, Dec. 18 outside of Nesters Market.

A collection bus will be outside the market from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. to collect donations, which it will then deliver to the Whistler Food Bank trailer behind Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church at the bottom of Lorimer Road.

Stuff the Bus was the idea of WAVE driver David Overbeck, who was concerned for the plight of Whistler staff after a late start to the winter in 2002. In the first two years the program has collected thousands of dollars worth of food and donations, with the ultimate goal of filling the bus.

The Whistler Food Bank is looking for non-perishable items like pasta, sauce and peanut butter. Cash donations are also welcome, as the Food Bank can purchase most staple items at a discounted rate.

The food bank is open every Monday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., through the month of December. For more urgent requirements, call 604-905-8023.
