ArtsNow to host info session for fund seekers

Following the announcement of $12 million for communities and organizations across B.C. on Dec. 15, ArtsNow will host an information session in Whistler for local groups interested in applying for funds.

What: ArtsNow Information Session

Where: MY Millennium Place

When: Monday, Jan. 10, 3-5 p.m.

ArtsNow is the arts and culture division of LegaciesNow, a not-for-profit society to develop sustainable legacies for British Columbia as a result of hosting the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

The funding, which must be spent by 2007, will be launched in three phases, the first of which will invest $4.25 million through three separate programs: Creative Communities, Catalyst and Innovations. The deadline for applications for Catalyst and Innovations funding has been set for Jan. 31, 2005. Creative Communities’ deadline is stated as "ongoing."

Funding is available to collectives and unincorporated groups as well as municipalities and other non-arts groups planning partnerships with arts groups.

The information session is an initiative of the VANOC Sea to Sky Office and the Whistler Arts Council and takes place on Monday, Jan. 10 from 3 to 5 p.m. at MY Millennium Place.

A presentation will be made by ArtsNow director Lori Baxter announcing the details of the program, the opportunities available to arts and culture organizations, community groups and collectives and information on how to access funding. This presentation will be followed by an open discussion involving all attending arts group representatives.

Organizations from Lions Bay to Mount Currie are encouraged to attend. Those intending to participate must RSVP to the Whistler Arts Council no later than Jan. 7 by emailing info@whistlerartscouncil.com or calling 604-938-9221.
