First rail kings crowned

The first of six King of the Rail events took place under the Magic Chair lights last Wednesday, with more than 60 snowboarders and skiers sessioning a small park set up with two runs and four rails.

Like all King of the Rail events, the winners at the end of the night were judged by their peers, with participants picking their favourite riders and skiers while a member of the events team keeps score. The winners received a share of the entry fees for that night, with $2 per person collected for the pot.

Several draw prizes were also handed out. Brandon Treger won the Atomic Snowboard, Ed Dujardin won the Nintendo Game Cube, and Lucas McGrath and Laurenne Barnsley each won a Nintendo Gamboy.

The next event on the calendar is set for Saturday, Jan. 8, starting at 6 p.m. It costs $2 to enter with a valid Night Moves pass, and minors under the age of 18 need a parent to sign the waiver. Future events are scheduled for Jan. 29, Feb. 12, March 4 and March 19. There will also be a women’s only Queen of the Rail jam on Feb. 19.
