Caution urged after vehicle break-ins

The Whistler RCMP are investigating after 10 vehicles in underground parking lots were broken into last weekend, with all incidents taking place between 9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 21 and 5 a.m. the following morning.

The thefts occurred in the underground parking lots at the Lagoons, Valhalla and Northstar developments. All lots were secure with key access, and the RCMP are checking to ensure that these parking areas were in fact secure.

Thieves entered the vehicles by breaking the windows and unlocking the doors. The list of stolen items includes portable electronics and CDs, as well as various other items.

Drivers are asked not to leave valuables in their vehicles and to report any unusual activity to police.

In addition, the RCMP will be consulting with the management of the targeted facilities to improve crime prevention. The police have also called in support units to search for evidence because of the serial nature of the thefts.
