A press conference and several information sessions have been planned for the public’s benefit as part of the visit on Feb. 2 and 3.

On Feb. 2 Rogge and First Nations officials are expected to announce a significant corporate partnership with Bell Canada.

On Feb. 3 there will be a meet-and-greet session during which the public is invited to meet with Squamish and Lil’wat Nation leaders. This informal session happens from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Empress B Ballroom of the Fairmont Chateau Whistler.

The Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre is scheduled to open in the fall of 2006 in Whistler, and will celebrate the joint history of the Squamish and Lil’wat Nations by showcasing the history, creative works, and cultures of the First Nations.

The Cultural Centre is also expected to provide economic benefits and job opportunities for First Nations in the area.

The Cultural Centre will be located on a 4.35 acre site across from the Fairmont Chateau Whistler in the upper village.
