Sahota new minister for resort development

Patty Sahota, MLA for Burnaby-Edmonds, was appointed the new Minister of State for Resort Development, Premier Gordon Campbell announced Tuesday.

Sahota replaces Sandy Santori, who retired from politics in January.

The provincial government has made resort development a priority, striking a task force in 2003. That led to a resort development strategy, which was released last November.

Sahota was first elected in 2001. She serves on the Government Caucus Committee for Communities and Safety, the Women’s Caucus Committee, the Asian Economic Development Committee and is a member of the Legislative Standing Committees on Aboriginal Affairs and on Finance.

Before being elected to the legislature Sahota worked in various sectors of the forest industry. She also worked for a commercial development realty firm. She earned her bachelor of arts degree in political science from the University of Victoria in 1993.
