Ski club adjusts training to weather

The Whistler Mountain Ski Club is making the best of the weather conditions at home and the skiing conditions at other mountains to stay in shape for the competitive season.

According to WMSC coach and PR director Peter Todd, the club has been keeping busy. The K2s went to Silver Star near Vernon for a speed camp, taking advantage of the better conditions in the Interior, and the FIS skiers are in Apex for another speed camp before the start of a race series.

"The K1 program has been affected in that they will not be able to train gates," said Todd, who added that the K1’s (age 11-12) are focussing on freeskiing skills instead.

There is no word on the status of home events, such as the Parsons Memorial Downhill and the Sierra Wireless Whistler Cup, but Todd says there’s still lots of time for it to snow. Meanwhile no decisions or contingency plans are currently being made to delay, move or cancel events.
