Organizers of a new mini-film festival event to be held at the end of March are calling for submissions.
The First Annual Ski and Snowboard Video Jamboree is being organized by Whistler local Brian Hockenstein of 514 Video Distribution. It’s based on a similar festival that takes place annually in Europe. The Jamboree is seeking fun films coming in at around the five-minute mark depicting mountain activity.
"We are hoping that people will use their creativity and imagination a bit and not just hand in five minutes of tricks and music," Hockenstein said.
Deadline for submission is March 15, with a screening event at the end of the month.

Brackendale documentary fest still accepting submissions
The first ever Brackendale Documentary Film Festival launches next weekend, Feb. 26-27 at the Brackendale Art Gallery.
Submissions of moving-image format content (no slide shows) on the subject Films of the Natural World: Exploring and Celebrating the Wonder and Diversity of our Natural World will be accepted until Monday, Feb. 21.
A hub for arts and music at the heart of Brackendale, the B.A.G., as it’s affectionately known, goes classical this weekend with a performance by the Pacific Clarinet Trio. The clarinet/piano/cello ensemble will play selections from Bach, Beethoven, Brahms and A. Reicha. The performance begins at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 20. Tickets are $15, available in advance from the venue and at Mostly Books in Squamish.

Indie Film Nights return
The monthly Indie Film Night series resumes this week.
Indie Film Nights V will return to the HUB Internet Cafe and Film Lounge in Creekside on Tuesday, Feb. 22.
The events are a screening forum for independent short films (up to 10 minutes) from the Whistler community submitted in advance. Local TV station Whistler Cable 6 produces a show based on each event with film content and director interviews.
Films for the upcoming event must be submitted by Friday, Feb. 18 in DVD or mini-DV format. Tuesday night’s films begin screening at 9 p.m. For more information call the HUB at 604-932-9799, or event organizer Davin Peterson at 604-932-9847.
