British woman dies in snowmobile accident

Victim hit tree while on tour

A 30-year-old woman visiting from the U.K. was pronounced dead on arrival after crashing into a tree while on a snowmobile tour.

According to the RCMP, the woman was part of a group of four visitors, including her husband, taking a snowmobile tour with Cougar Mountain Wilderness Adventures on Feb. 17. The group was accompanied by one guide.

According to the RCMP report, the woman lost control of the snowmobile she was operating and crashed into trees on the side of the trail.

The guide called 911 at approximately 1:50 p.m. and performed first aid at the scene until the group was joined by B.C Ambulance staff at the scene. According to the report "significant efforts were undertaken" at the scene. She was then transported to the Whistler Health Care Centre, where she was pronounced dead.

Eric Sinclair, the owner and operator of Cougar Mountain Wilderness Adventres, declined to comment on the case, but said it has been tough on everyone involved.

The Whistler RCMP and B.C. Coroner Service is investigating the incident, and the RCMP Victim Assistance Co-ordinator has been in contact with the witnesses and their families.
