Tickets going fast for S2S Hockey Challenge

The last time this much hockey talent was packed into Meadow Park arena, the Canadian team was in Whistler training for the 1998 Winter Games.

There are still tickets remaining for the Sea to Sky Hockey Challenge, with games taking place this Saturday, Feb. 26 in Vancouver and on Sunday in Whistler. Tickets are $25 with all proceeds going towards the PacificSport PodiumFund. The 50/50 draw in Whistler will go towards the Whistler Minor Hockey Association, and the 50/50 draw in Vancouver will benefit the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program.

Names were still being added to the rosters this week, but so far it’s shaping up to be a good competition.

Team Nonis, led by current Vancouver Canucks general manager Dave Nonis, will be coached by Howie Meeker. The NHL veterans in the group include defenceman Jyrki Lumme, Darcy Rota, Greg Adams and the Courtnall Brothers, Russ, Bruce and Geoff.

Vancouver Mayor Larry Campbell is also on the team, alone with Danielle Dube, a member of the women’s Olympic hockey team, mountain bike legend Alison Sydor, and Willy from Jack FM’s morning show. The list of entertainers includes Barney Bentall, Jackson Davies from the Beachcombers, Matt Johnson of 54-40, Craig Northey of The Odds, Jim Cuddy from Blue Rodeo and Colin James.

Team Burke, led by former Canucks GM Brian Burke, includes former NHLers Ray Ferraro, Cliff Ronning, Steve Tambellini, Doug Risebrough, "King" Richard Brodeur, and Igor Larionov.

Other athletes on the team include Cammi Granato of the U.S. Women’s National Team, B.C. Lions Jason Clermont, Brent Johnson and Lyle Green, former kicker Lui Passaglia, and a list of entertainers that includes Steve Darling and Jay Janower from Global Television, Cam Bancroft from the Beachcombers, country musician Aaron Pritchett, and Shaun Majumder from This Hour Has 22 Minutes.

The Whistler game gets underway at 4 p.m.
