The inaugural Queen of the Rail jam on Saturday brought out a field of 46 skiers and boarders, more than twice as many females as usually show up at the King of the Rail contests. The event was so successful that more women-only events are being planned for next year.
In the women’s snowboard category, Whistler-Blackcomb’s own Wendy Robinson took the most votes, while Asya Hemsworth was the top junior in the field.
In the skier category, Crystal Lee received the most votes. Ariana Stufano was the top junior girl.
Erica Finnson won the prize draw for the Nintendo Game Cube.
The King of the Rail series continues on Saturday, March 5.
The setup will be the same as in past contests, with registration starting at 4:30 p.m. in the Blackcomb daylodge and the event running from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
The cost is $2 to enter with a valid Night Moves pass, and skiers and boarders under the age of 18 need a parent or guardian to sign an event waiver. The winner in each category is the participant with the most votes from their peers.
