Club Cuts

Craze, Malente and Mama Miche

Hope you’re rested up, because Whistler clubs are going crazy this week...

Craze at Sunday Night Bounce

Who: DJ Craze

What: Sunday Night Bounce

Where: Garfinkel’s

When: Sunday, March 13

The Sunday Night Bounce hip-hop club night at Garfinkel’s is bringing in Miami mix-master DJ Craze this weekend.

Craze is a three time world champion of the internationally-recognized DMC DJ skills showcase competition (1998, 1999 and 2000) and has also taken top prizes in ITF, Zulu Nation and East Coast Rap Sheet battles.

The turntable technician’s progressive sets of hip-hop, breaks and drum ’n’ bass are presented with a style one admirer likened to "a mad scientist who slices and dices beats into a breathtaking sonic concoction."

In addition to his skills behind the decks, Craze is an acclaimed producer, with a discography that includes re-mixes for Propellerheads and The Herbalizer.

His Nexxsound mix CD on DMC Records has been deemed a bridge between the hip-hop and jungle/drum ’n’ bass genres, described as "a testament to his pioneering vision of melding the mentality of a battler with the street smarts and savvy of the jungle elite."

Sunday night’s show will have a definite jungle/drum ’n’ bass flavour starting with the warm up set by local DJ Jungle Souldier.

Malente at Foundation

Who: Malente

What: Foundation

Where: Garfinkel’s

When: Tuesday, March 15

Foundation becomes die Grundlage this week with a visit from German DJ/producer Malente.

He may have drawn his moniker from the quiet German town where he was born, but Malente’s rockin’ sets of nu-funk/electro house and breakbeat tracks have taken him all over the world.

He’s also a renowned producer – the man behind the track ‘We Came to Party’ on steady rotation at Mr. Fister’s GLC Saturday nights, and other funky booty-grooving rulers.

If you want to hear some Malente you can throw down your own set on his website (www.malente.dj). He’s installed a ‘web mixer’ which allows you to play DJ with mp.3 snippets from his album ‘No Risk No Funk’ on a set of virtual turntables complete with manual and auto crossfaders and 18 different sound effects.

As much fun as virtual Malente is, the real thing will be way funkier with way better sound.

Mama Miche and the Sorceress at GLC

Who: Mama Miche & The Sorceress

Where: Garibaldi Lift Co. (GLC)

When: Tuesday, March 15

Tickets: $12

Victoria DJ duo Mama Miche and The Sorceress make their way to Whistler for yet another amazing Tuesday night gig. The gals are guests of the GLC’s Tuesday night queen bee – DJ Foxy Moron (a.k.a. Ace) and will duel their way through funky house tracks.

In celebration of the crossfading gals the night has a cross-dressing theme. Tickets are $12. For more information call the club at 604-905-2220.

The GLC is also hosting Vancouver four-piece instrumental band Threat From Outer Space on Friday, March 11.
