Whistler families can learn more about disordered eating by taking part in an upcoming research study.
A two-stage prevention study will be held in Whistler this summer. It includes two educational workshops, a pre-test, post-test and a follow up questionnaire. The total time commitment is 16 hours.
To be eligible to participate, parents or caregivers must have a child, regardless of age, who has or is struggling with an eating disorder. They can also join in the program if they don't have a child who is struggling but are interested in prevention.
Canadians for the Prevention of Disordered Eating Society, which was incorporated last December, is putting on the interactive research program.
The CPDES mandate is to design, develop and implement a prevention program though education, teaching, training, awareness and research of disordered eating.

The program is to take place on Sunday, June 12 at the Whistler Health Care Centre. The workshops are free to attend.
Musicians, athletes can effect change
Tonight's Dialogue Forum will bring together athletes and musicians to talk about how they can inspire change.
The topic is called Louder Than Words: Sport and Music as Forums for Change.
The forum will bring together K'naan, a recording artist from Africa, Sol Guy, a filmmaker who documents people around the world doing inspiring things, and Chris Winter, who founded Whistler's own Zero Ceiling, a non-profit organization which gives Vancouver street kids a chance at life in Whistler.
The forum will kick off tonight, Thursday, April 14, at 6:30 p.m. at Citta's.
Seniors welcome to attend
The Mature Action Committee is holding their annual general meeting on Friday, April 15 at 6:30 p.m.
They will be discussing the possibilities of a seniors housing complex, among other things.
The AGM will be followed by a Dialogue Forum entitled Healthy Aging in Whistler, which will have a number of panelists including local physician Dr. Ian Tamplin and gerontologist Dr. Kenneth Madden.
The forum will be discussing ways for seniors to grow old but stay healthy. The forum gets underway at 7:30 p.m. and runs for two hours.
Win a magical birthday party
One Whistler kid could win the chance to have a free birthday party, complete with a magic show.
There are two catches. The birthday must be between April 15 and May 15 and the child must be between five and 11 years old.
The contest is sponsored by Nesters Market, where parents can fill out an entry form and drop it into the entry box.
Magician Donovan Atreides will perform at the birthday party before putting on a show at MY Millennium Place on Saturday, April 30. The afternoon show is called The Greatest Magic Show on Earth!

'We've only got one planet'
An Earth Day musical will be taking centre stage at MY Millennium Place this week.
Grade 4 and Grade 5 students from Spring Creek Elementary will be performing the musical entitled We've Only Got One Planet.
It is an environmental musical in honour of the 35 th annual Earth Day.
Students take the stage at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19. The show is about 45 minutes long. Admission is by donation.
Earth Day is officially marked on Friday, April 22.
