Rossland’s David Anderson, the 2004 NorAm Cup Champion, announced this week that he will retire from ski racing after spending eight years with the national team.
The 25 year old has enrolled in the engineering program at the University of Calgary.
"I have come as far as I could with my skiing, and now I am excited about moving on to new challenges," he said. "I have very fond memories of my experiences at the Salt Lake City Olympics as well as the (2001) World Championships at St. Anton."
Anderson was 10 th in the combined event at St. Anton. He was 38 th in the 2002 Olympic Winter Games downhill, but was later injured in a collision with a snowcat winch cable while skiing with a friend.
Anderson lost almost a full season while recovering from his injuries, but came back to win the overall NorAm title the following year.
This past season Anderson struggled on the World Cup, but showed he could still race in the national championships, where he was sixth in the downhill.
Anderson thanked his sponsors and the team for their support.
