Used book sale Saturday

Three upcoming events will be raising money for local libraries.

Stock up on summer reading material at the upcoming Giant Used Book Sale.

The sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 21 outside the IGA in the Marketplace. Community members have donated fiction, non-fiction, soft and hardcover books on a wide range of topics from sports, self-help, cooking, parenting, biographies and travel. Fiction books include a mixture of classics and bestsellers.

There will also be magazines, videos, and CD’s for sale.

The books will be sold by donation with all proceeds going to the school libraries at Spring Creek and Whistler Secondary.

The following weekend, on Saturday, May 28, the Friends of the Whistler Public Library are holding a Library Tea. The tea will run from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Thornhill home at 5133 Old Gravel Road. There will be coffee, tea, and treats to eat and local harpist Alison Hunter will provide the entertainment. Among the items for silent auction are spa treatments, flowers and chocolates. Tickets are available at the library or Rogers Chocolates, $20 for adults, $10 for young ladies ages 13 to 18. All funds will go toward the Whistler Public Library.

And then next month the Friends of the Library are holding a Giant Plant Sale. It will take place on Saturday, June 4 in the Marketplace parking lot. Before the sale, however, the group is looking for plant donations of all kinds from perennials, annuals, shrubs and even seeds.

Drop off donations at the following homes: 8582 Buckhorn Drive in Alpine, 6411 Easy Street in Tapleys, 2206 Aspen Drive in Creekside and 18 Ridge Lane in Pinecrest. Call Christy Auer at 604-932-3665 for more information. All proceeds from the plant sale will go to the library.
