The organizers of the Whistler Skating Club’s Ice Show on Saturday are still counting money and ticket stubs, but by all accounts the event was another success with capacity crowds coming out to see Around the World on Ice: A Cultural Mosaic.
Sixty-eight skaters from the club took part in more than 20 musical numbers, making their coaches proud.
"Behind the scenes Around the World On Ice, went like clockwork," said organizer Susan Shrimpton. "Quick costume changes were well-orchestrated and we had no technical glitches. The skaters and parent volunteers had plenty to smile about.
"The standing ovation at the evening performance was a tremendous award."
Annie Bellemare, one of Canada’s top figure skaters, was a special guest for the performance, wowing the crowd with two numbers. She also helped to coach the other skaters in a special morning workshop.
"Skaters were beaming with enthusiasm and exhibited a great deal of energy and finesse for Annie," said Shrimpton. "Though I have to say that the level of energy the past few weeks has been very high. Skaters have been so busy learning ice show programs as well as polishing competitive programs for a competition on the Victoria Day long weekend that one has to wonder if a little pressure is good for performance levels."
