Thousands flocked to Whistler to enjoy the Victoria Day long weekend but arrests were down significantly from last year.
In all 21 arrests were made – down from 33 last year. Whistler- Pemberton RCMP responded to 121 calls for service, with officers attending eight noisy parties, nine disturbances, two minor assaults and 12 fights.
Police made 19 arrests for various liquor related offences and two other arrests for drug related offences. Municipal bylaw officers issued 17 tickets for possession of open liquor. Two 24-hour driving prohibitions were also issued.
Traffic police were also busy on the highway with 46 violation tickets issued, eight of which were for open liquor. As well, traffic police issued one 24-hour suspension and arrested one person for impaired driving. During routine traffic stops another person was arrested for a warrant out of New Westminster.
Missing males located and safe
There was a happy ending Tuesday after two Lower Mainland men were found safe by Whistler-Pemberton search and rescue near Red Mountain. Neil Mulholland, 35 of Delta, and 38-year-old Ross Moen of Burnaby were found in their Pathfinder stuck in a snow bank after failing to return from their 4 X 4 trip to China Head Mountain near Lillooet. Neither needed medical attention and once the truck was freed they continued their drive home.
