Singer-songwriter Mae Moore, best known for ’90s hits "Where Loneliness Lives", "Bohemia" and "Watermark", will not be appearing at the second annual Pemberton Folk Festival due to health concerns.
"We’ve had to cancel all of our gigs until July as Mae is getting over a bout of pneumonia," wrote Moore’s husband Lester Quitzau in response to a request for an interview.
Quitzau, a popular fixture on the folk circuit, was also scheduled to play the festival.
While Moore and Quitzau’s cancellation will disappoint fans, the festival sports a packed and varied schedule featuring more than 18 acts over the June 11 weekend. Performers run the gamut from former members of The Paperboys, John Bottomley and Moritz Behm, to 10-year-old fiddle prodigy Jocelyn Pettit.
This year’s festival offers a greater First Nations presence including local acts such as world-champion hoop dancer Alex Wells, the Tzo’kam Singers and the Turtle Shell Dancers. Juno award-winning Cree/Métis singer/songwriter Wayne Lavallee will also be performing.
Lavallee and his band were a highlight at last February’s Celebration 2010 Cultural Cabaret event at Millennium Place, bringing down the house with a musical fusion of John Mellencamp-style contemporary rock and traditional First Nations sounds.
Advance tickets for the Pemberton Folk Festival are available in Whistler at Black’s Pub and in Pemberton at Char-isma Emporium and Pemberton Therapeutic Massage. Weekend pass rates are $90 per family, $40 per adult and $10 per child. Individual Saturday, Saturday night and Sunday tickets are also available.
