Squamish is certainly living up to its moniker, The Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada these days. Last weekend the community hosted the Squamish Mountain Bike Festival and sold out Test of Metal bike race. This weekend the rock climbing community will celebrate a three-day festival featuring some of the worlds best climbers.
A wide range of activities is planned, from spectator-friendly competitions to free clinics and climbing demonstrations.
The schedule includes:
A trail maintenance event at local crags
The Ultimate Route Contest (elite and open categories)
Bouldering Fest
Technical clinics taught by some of the best climbers and guides in the world
Free use of an artificial climbing wall
A sponsor trade fair
Slide shows presented by Timmy ONeill and Scott Milton
Food, drinks and music by DJ Lafouche
All money raised from the event will go towards the Climbers Access Society of B.C., a non-profit organization that supports public access and conservation in climbing areas around the province.
According to organizers, with thousands of boulder problems and climbing routes in the area, Squamish was the obvious choice to host the third annual RocTrip event. The mountain biking, hiking, kayaking and windsurfing opportunities were also a drawing card.
