Water Ramp opens to the public

The Blackcomb Freeride Team, the freeriding arm of the Blackcomb Freestyle Club, is offering a water ramp program on Blackcomb on Saturdays and Sundays from July 23 to Sept. 25, as well as two four-day camps Aug. 6-9 and Aug. 20-23. The program will include trampoline and water ramp training; no experience required for either.

Participants have to bring their own gear – life jackets and helmets are mandatory, wet or dry suits are recommended.

Flexible drop-in programs are also available, with instruction from certified air, water ramp and trampoline coaches.

Squamish Triathlon sold out

The 8 th Annual Squamish Triathlon, A Memorial to Bob McIntosh is now sold out.

Capped at 500 competitors, the July 10 race includes 368 individuals and 46 relay teams of three.

The race starts with the 1,500 metre swim at Alice Lake, and finishes at Don Ross Secondary School after a 40 km bike and 10 km trail run.

Organizers are still looking for volunteers. Road closures and delays will also be announced in the coming weeks.

Deadline for 2005-2006 soccer nearing

The deadline to register your child to play in Whistler or Pemberton soccer leagues for fall of 2005 and spring of 2006 season is fast approaching.

For the Whistler Youth Soccer Club and Pemberton Youth Soccer the registration deadline is June 25. No registrations will be accepted after that date.

Registration for Whistler is now offered online at www.whistlersoccer.com .

In Pemberton you can register at the Community Centre. Fees, information and forms are available at the Pemberton Youth Soccer website at www.pembertonsupermarket.com/soccer .

Spud Run on for Canada Day

The annual Pemberton Valley Spud Run will return on Canada Day, July 1, with lower entry fees and a special family rate.

The cost is $12 for adults, $5 for kids, and $20 for families, which includes refreshments after the run/race.

The run is 7 km, starting and finishing at the Pemberton Community Centre, with all proceeds going towards the Girl Guides and the Pemberton Valley Trails Association.

Spartans make a strong finish

The Whistler Spartans Major Baseball Team wrapped up their regular season last Saturday at Meadow Park with two wins against the Squamish Bears. This weekend the team will enter the final Squamish tournament with its best win/loss record in many years.

Special thanks go the coaches, Todd Bush, Rod Thompson and Norm Groulx, who have worked with some of the kids for up to six years. Thanks also go to all the parents for their support, to the Whistler Minor Baseball Association for helping the club to purchase a generator to power a pitching machine, and to Nesters Markets and Ingrid’s Village Café for donating food and drinks for the team’s barbecue.

The Spartans’ 2006 Registration will be announced before next spring. New players are always welcome.
