Nobody seems to know who is behind an all-day, all ages rock show scheduled this Saturday, Aug. 27 at the Mount Currie Rodeo Grounds. That includes the alleged "sponsor" and the Mount Curie Band council who have jurisdiction over the rodeo grounds.
Photocopied posters for Summerfest 2005 found around Pemberton promise "live Vancouver bands" running the gamut from alternative to rock, as well as DJs and a late-night "wet T-shirt/booty shakin’ contest." "Girls, sign up at the gates if you dare!" challenges the poster that also promises guys the opportunity to judge. Tickets for the event are $10 a person or $30 a carload to a maximum of five people and are only available at the gate.
What the band council wants the community to know is that it doesn't condone this type of event. Furthermore, they were never approached about renting the land to the promoters and were thus unaware it was being planned. A statement prepared by Mount Currie Band senior administrator Sheldon Tetreault reads as follows:
"Chief and Council were not aware this event was being planned; Chief and Council will not endorse this event as it is inconsistent with community wellness objectives; Chief and Council will work closely with the Stl’atl’imx Tribal Police to ensure this event does not happen; Anyone attending this event may be charged with trespassing on Mount Currie Band reserve land."
Total Kaos Ent. and Atmosphere Productions are credited as the producers of the event on the poster. A search to find contact information of either production company proved futile.
However, sponsoring company, Paradyn Computing and Gaming Solutions was reached for comment. A representative for the company, who declined to be named, said that he had no information about the producers and that the extent of Paradyn’s involvement was allowing Atmosphere to produce their poster on Paradyn equipment. He claimed not to have any contact information for the concert producer but offered to "give a message to the CEO of Atmosphere if he showed up," at Paradyn.
