Upcoming forums look at leadership in community

Two events to be hosted by the Whistler Forum

Community leadership is on the minds of many as Whistler ramps up for the 2005 municipal elections.

As such, the Whistler Forum has announced two upcoming events, which will get community members talking about local leadership.

"We are pleased to announce the first two of these will bring together speakers with local citizens who are about increasing the quality of effectiveness of leadership in communities like ours," said William Roberts, president of the Whistler Forum.

On Thursday Sept. 22 the first forum ‘What We Want in Community Leaders’ will kick off at Millennium Place at 7:30 p.m.

It brings together David Holtzman, executive director of Leadership Vancouver, and Chris Fraser, executive director of Leadership Victoria, along with Roberts in a panel discussion. The forum is designed to flesh out the top ten competencies of community leaders as determined through discussion and deliberation by participants. The forum asks for a $10 donation for participants.

The second forum brings MLA Joan McIntyre to the Conference Centre for a discussion on Provincial Leadership for the Sea to Sky. There will be a 30-minute oral question period after McIntyre’s talk. This will be taking place during the Breakfast Launch of the 2005/06 Leadership Sea to Sky cohort, a Whistler Forum program.
