What: CANUCKS TRAINING CAMP Check out your favourite Canucks practicing on the ice at Meadow Park. Admission is free but donations will be accepted at the door for local charities.

What: Fundraiser Garage Sale Help raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina at a local garage sale. There will be furniture, lights, miscellaneous household items, baby items and toys at 6405 St. Andrew’s Way. All proceeds go to the victims of the hurricane.

What: OLYMPIC FESTIVAL DAY Come to the village and check out the information booths, tents, interactive displays and autograph signings as Olympians, local sports organizations and National Sport Federations hit the streets. This is part of an Olympic weekend which includes a gala dinner and golf tournament. The goal is to raise $200,000 for the Own the Podium program.

What: Summer reading club awards Whistler Public Library’s Summer Reading Club Awards will be presented at the library this Saturday. The first 30 children to arrive will recieve a medal provided by the Royal Bank of Canada and all children will recieve a printed award certificate for participation.

What: TERRY FOX RUN 25 years ago a young Vancouver kid started running across Canada on one leg to raise money for cancer research. He made it as far as Thunder Bay and now his legacy lives on forever in the hearts of Canadians. Do your part for cancer research. Join in the 25th annual Terry Fox run. Run, bike or walk the 10 kms. What: REEL ALTERNATIVES ‘It’s All Gone Pete Tong’ is a mockumentary about a DJ Frankie Wilde, a superstar DJ in Ibiza, who loses his hearing. There will be two screenings to the movie. Tickets are $9, available in advance at Nesters. The movie is rated R.

What: Whistler Black Bear Population Dynamics Part II Local black bear researcher Michael Allen will be talking about berries and bear biology in his upcoming presentation. Field data will be presented on berry abundance and use by black bears and its influence on reproductive biology, recruitment and population trends. Tickets are $9.99 for adults, $5 for youth.
