What: Whistler Black Bear Population Dynamics Part II Local black bear researcher Michael Allen will be talking about berries and bear biology in his upcoming presentation. Field data will be presented on berry abundance and use by black bears and its influence on reproductive biology, recruitment and population trends. Tickets are $9.99 for adults, $5 for youth.

What: What we want in community leaders Join the Whistler Forum and a three-member panel as they prompt debate around what we as a community are looking for in our leaders. The forum is designed to flesh out the top ten competencies of community leaders over the course of the discussion. A $10 contribution by donation is asked.

What: PEMBERTON FUNDRAISER Join in a dinner and silent auction at the Pemberton Legion to raise money for Janet Meen and her children. Meen lost her husband in a head on car accident near Vernon on the Labour Day weekend. For more information call Stacy Carson at 604-894-3695. What: CHEAKAMUS CHALLENGE It’s the 22nd year for the fall classic mountain bike race – more than 70 kms, more than 2,000 metres of vertical gain from Squamish to Whistler. Register online at www.cheakamuschallenge.ca or go to the Squamish airport at 7:30 a.m. on the race day (it’s about $15 more expensive.) Cheer on the racers as they cross the finish line at Dusty’s.

What: COPS FOR CANCER ‘TOUR DE COAST’ Local constable Bev Baker is taking part in the week-long 600 km bike ride to raise money and awareness for children’s cancer. Show your support at the opening ceremony at noon on Sunday Sept. 25 in the Village Square. Cheer the riders as they set off on their journey. Or take part in a fundraiser/silent auction the night before. There are some great items up for bid.

What: CHICK FLICK FUNDRAISER Relax at the movies while raising money for breast cancer. For one special screening of the ‘Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants’ all the proceeds will be going to the Run for the Cure. Tickets are $10/$8 and are available at the door. Great prizes too!

What: CHRISTY CLARK AT WOW The former BC MLA, Deputy Premier and Vancouver Mayoralty contender Christy Clark will be the guest speaker at the next Women of Whistler meeting. She will talk about her political story and how she balances her public life with her family and personal time. Registration is at 6 p.m. and the program begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets cost $25/$28.
