What: Whistler Black Bear Population Dynamics Part II Local black bear researcher Michael Allen will be talking about berries and bear biology in his upcoming presentation. Field data will be presented on berry abundance and use by black bears and its influence on reproductive biology, recruitment and population trends. Tickets are $9.99 for adults, $5 for youth.

What: CHEAKAMUS CHALLENGE It’s the 22nd year for the fall classic mountain bike race – more than 70 kms, more than 2,000 metres of vertical gain from Squamish to Whistler. Register online at www.cheakamuschallenge.ca or go to the Squamish airport at 7:30 a.m. on the race day (it’s about $15 more expensive.) Cheer on the racers as they cross the finish line at Dusty’s.

What: COPS FOR CANCER ‘TOUR DE COAST’ Local constable Bev Baker is taking part in the week-long 600 km bike ride to raise money and awareness for children’s cancer. Show your support at the opening ceremony at noon on Sunday Sept. 25 in the Village Square. Cheer the riders as they set off on their journey. Or take part in a fundraiser/silent auction the night before. There are some great items up for bid.
