Note: Unable to do a phone interview, Kirsten McLeod suggested information could be taken from her press release. Here is that release in its entirety.

The community of Pemberton has been my home all my life, and my family’s residence since 1956. After graduating from high school in Pemberton, I attended what is now Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops (was UCC) to obtain my Accounting Technician Diploma. For the past 7 years I have been employed as Office Manager/Project Manager for a Whistler based Project Management Company.

I am running for council independently. Although I do not have local government experience, I believe I have qualities and skills needed to fulfill the duties of councilor. I thrive on researching innovative and effective ways of accomplishing tasks – getting the task done, and getting it done right. I have solid organizational skills and believe in teamwork. My working/business experience has also given me valuable training in budgeting, financial planning, and managing complex long-term projects. I support the Village of Pemberton and the Squamish- Lillooet Regional District working in a team approach toward accomplishing our mutual goals.

Growing up in Pemberton I have watched our community advance and develop, increasing the area population of our community. I have developed friendships and relations with new residents moving to the community, and as well, I have continued my relationships with long time residents of Pemberton. Through this time I have listened to the concerns of both these groups. I have also witnessed the community struggles to provide infrastructure and facilities to accommodate the increased population growth. Travelling to other areas of our country and province, I have always been happy to return home to Pemberton. I care about my community and its future!

First and foremost, I believe Pemberton needs to cultivate community spirit and identity by constructing an affordable Recreation Centre, housing an ice arena and activity centre. Focus should be given to building a facility requiring minimal operation and maintenance costs. Secondly, I believe our community needs to work towards developing sustainable economic growth, allowing residents of our community to work and live in Pemberton. Community business opportunities such as agritourism may be explored. I would like to hear the ideas, concerns, and issues of community members, for when I’m elected I will be your representative for what you wish to see happen in your community.
