Heil back on podium in moguls opener

Albertan grabs silver in freestyle moguls

Jennifer Heil of Spruce Gove, Alberta, the reigning freestyle moguls champion, had a solid run at the season opener at Tignes, France on Wednesday to claim the silver medal behind Hannah Kearney of the U.S. Sara Kjellin of Sweden was third.

Heil was joined in the finals by teammates Stephanie St. Pierre and Elisa Kurylowicz, who finished seventh and 12 th respectively.

Whistler’s Syliva Kerfoot did not qualify for the finals, but finished 27 th out of 37 skiers.

The Canadian men had a solid qualifier, with three men ranking in the top-12. All three crashed in the finals. Chris Wong ended his day in eighth while Warren Tanner and Alexandre Bilodeau tied for 11 th .

Dale Begg-Smith, who grew up in Whistler but is now competing for Australia, was 15 th .

The mogul team has four more stops before the 2006 Olympic Winter Games, all of which will count towards Olympic selection.
