Although women typically only make up a small part of the field in a King of the Rail contest, female skiers and borders turned out in droves to compete in the first Queen of the Rail contest on Saturday night. With perfect conditions, a group of 41 girls showed they can do anything the boys can do with gaps, spins and other tricks.
As always the winners were chosen by the riders themselves. The top adult skier was Maude Raymond who was one of the most aggressive riders in the contest. The top youth skier was Ariana Stufano.
In the snowboard category, Tia Saunders was the top adult and Eileen Hemsworth the top youth.
Jillian Duggan won the draw prize for an Atomic snowboard, while Julie-Ann Champman won the Atomic skis. Satoko Hirano won the Nintendo Gamecube.
The next King of the Rail is on Saturday, Feb. 11 and will be open to both men and women.
The cost is $5 per person with a valid Night Moves pass, and registration gets underway at 5 p.m. at the Blackcomb Daylodge.
