Library loses director

Joan Richoz resigns after 20 years

One of Whistler’s most familiar faces is stepping away from the circulation desk.

Joan Richoz has announced her resignation as director of Whistler Public Library due to health reasons.

"My decision to leave the library was a difficult one," Richoz said in a news release, "and I will miss the customers, staff and trustees I have worked with for so many years."

Richoz has been involved with the library since it began in 1985, progressing from board member, to sole employee, then director. Richoz has seen the library evolve from a 1400-square foot basement location to drawing up the plans for the 12,000 square foot facility due to open in February, 2007.

Library board chair Anne Townley said she was "saddened by (Richoz’s) decision to leave the library."

At its February board meeting, library trustees named the new library’s fireplace lounge after the director. Richoz’s last day of work will be Feb. 17.
