The fifth annual Lost Lake Shuffle cross-country enduro race is set to go this Sunday, Feb. 19 with exceptional racing conditions on the 3.5 km loop that is being used for the race.
There are several ways to take part — as a solo or part of a team of three (male, female and mixed) for four hours or as a solo for two hours. There will also be a short, one hour Shuffle for families on a shorter 2 km loop.
The four-hour categories get underway at 11 a.m., the two-hour category at 1 p.m. and the family enduro at 2 p.m. to ensure all races wrap up at the same time.
The cost is $60 for a team, $25 for a solo and $30 for a family, not including discounted trail passes, with all proceeds going towards coaching and development for youth. All participants are also virtually guaranteed to come away with something with over $2,500 in draw prizes available.

The event will start and finish at the Lost Lake Warming Hut, with entertainment all day courtesy of a DJ and Chris Quinlan’s colour commentary.

Newcomer wins headlamp race
Before he wiped the floor with the competitors at Sunday’s Coast Cup race, French visitor Florian Beliard tuned up his skills at the weekly Whistler Nordics Loonie Race on Feb. 9.
It was a night race, with all competitors using headlamps to find their way around the Lost Lake trails.
Beliard finished the 7.1 km course in 17 minutes, 48 seconds, followed by Dave Burch in 17:59. Keith Ray was third in 19:30.
The top female was Joanna Harrington in 21:05, followed closely by Sydney Van Loon in 21:07, and Aurelie Germann in 23:04.
The skier of the week is Andrea Peiffer for her "unique poling style in the dark around Helen’s Corner".
Fifty-five racers took part, with Alpine Café and Russell Brewing supplying the after race refreshments.
Tonight’s race (Feb. 16) starts and finishes at the Nicklaus North Clubhouse, and is sponsored by The Den on the Lake Restaurant – fancy dig for the Loonie’s ‘Pimp and Ho’ theme in honour of Valentine’s. Once again, all participants should bring their headlamps.
Registration is at 5:30 p.m. and the race gets underway at 6 p.m. All participants need a night trails pass and be members of the Whistler Nordics.

Mixed weekend for minor hockey
Whistler’s minor hockey teams had a full slate of games over the weekend, with varying results. Some of the games were disrupted by a highway closure on Saturday, and will be replayed at a later date.
