Fast runner nabs pricey jackets

A young man bolted from a Whistler village gear and clothing store on Monday, Feb. 20 with two expensive leather jackets.

According to Evolution staff, the man came into the store just before 11 a.m. and browsed for about 10 to 15 minutes. He waited until one clerk was ringing up an order and the other clerk answering the phone before grabbing the two jackets and bolting out the door. A clerk chased the thief one kilometre to Blueberry, but lost him.

Described as French-Canadian and in his 20s, the suspect is between five foot six and five foot eight, with short brown hair. He was wearing a dark blue sweatsuit and white track shoes.

"He was obviously dressed to go running," said one employee.

Evolution is asking people to be on the lookout for the jackets, and is warning other shops about the thief.

One jacket is described as a khaki suede men's with a snakeskin print, by LRG and valued at $540. The other is a brown leather men's Matix jacket worth $300.

Police are investigating.
