ArtWalk and Bizarre Bazaar bring local art to the masses

There are plenty of ways for artists to showcase their talents in Whistler and there has never been a better time, with submission calls issued for two of Whistler’s biggest art extravaganzas: the 3 rd Annual Whistler ArtWalk and the 18th annual Bizarre Bazaar.

The Whistler Arts Council-hosted events aim to expose the incredible talent the corridor wields.

ArtWalk is a village-wide visual art and craft showcase featuring Sea to Sky artists and artisans in non-traditional gallery spaces. Coffee shops, hotels, retail spaces, restaurants and any other kind of business with bare walls ready to showcase local talent get involved in the month-long event, kicking off with a launch party Friday, June 30. Opening receptions will be hosted at the various venues, including live performances.

Artists and businesses wishing to become a host gallery must submit applications by Wednesday, May 31, 4 p.m.

Even though Christmas is seven months away, the Whistler Arts Council is already accepting applications for Whistler’s biggest craft fair, Dec. 1 and 2 at the Telus Conference Centre.

Bizarre Bazaar features more than 100 artisans displaying everything from ceramics and clothing to glass and jewelry. Last year’s event attracted more than 5,000 visitors. Submissions are juried, with priority given to corridor residents. All products must be handcrafted.

Contact the Whistler Arts Council at 604-938-9221 or info@whistlerartscouncil.com for application forms for either event.
