Squamish man in critical condition following beating

One in critical condition, another good samaritan injured

A 48-year-old Squamish man is in critical condition in Lions Gate Hospital with head injuries after an altercation with another Squamish man.

RCMP were called to an address in the 37000-block of 5 th Avenue shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday where the 48-year-old male resident of the address was in an altercation with a 47-year-old Squamish man.

RCMP say the 48 year old had been knocked to the ground with punches and kicks, and once on the ground the 47 year old continued to punch the older man, causing his head to strike the concrete.

A third male, a 42-year-old Squamish resident, tried to intervene and pull the assailant off the victim. RCMP say the assailant then grabbed a three-foot piece of 2X6 board and struck the third man on the head.

Squamish RCMP took the assailant into custody when they arrived.

The two victims were transported to Squamish General Hospital. The 42-year-old male was treated and released. The 48 year old was later transported to Lions Gate Hospital.

RCMP investigation is continuing.
