Tsunami fundraiser tickets now on sale

Set for Friday, August 11

The Helping Hands Concert, a fundraiser for victims of the South East Asia tsunamis, is moving forward Friday, Aug. 11 at MY Millennium Place thanks to the generosity of a local organization that is funding the bulk of the $7,000 production.

"Of course, I am extremely happy with the news," said event organizer Jay Wahono, owner of Taman Sari Royal Heritage Spa. "I believe this is a good concept for the community. This is our opportunity to share our value and compassion for one and other. If we come together, we can make the world a little bit safer for all of us."

All ticket sales for the concert will benefit UNICEF and its efforts to aid tsunami victims.

Until the donor came forward Wahono was unsure of whether the project was able to go ahead. Only last week, his fundraising efforts were able to raise $1,000 for the production, leaving a gaping $6,000 hole filled by the local organization whose name will be disclosed at a later date.

The live concert will draw on the musicians showcased on the Helping Hands album, including talents such as Jim Byrnes, Marcus Mosely, Shari Ulrich and Norman Foote.

Tickets are now on sale for $60 and are available by calling MY Place at 604-935-8410. A sell-out concert would raise as much as $15,000 for the tsunami relief cause.
