A free outdoor concert in mid-September will bring the Philosopher Kings and Chantal Kreviazuk to Whistler to launch the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games emblem to the world.
The Whistler Golf Course driving range will be turned into an outdoor concert field and feature five Canadian artists, including Spirit of the West, Jim Byrnes and Jeremy Fisher.
The afternoon concert has been designed to appeal to music lovers of all ages, particularly families.
Blankets, picnics, but no alcohol are encouraged for the concert that starts at 3 p.m. and will be hosted by veteran Olympic broadcaster Brian Williams. A number of Canada’s top Paralympic athletes will also be on hand, as will representatives from the Government of Canada, the Province of British Columbia, the City of Vancouver, the Resort Municipality of Whistler and the Four Host First Nations.
The official Paralympic emblem, a stylized Inukshuk which will form the core visual identity of the 2010 Paralympics, will be unveiled.
Concert area and washroom facilities will be wheelchair accessible.
