What: ARTrageous

When: Thursday, Nov. 9

Where: Dusty’s at Creekside

Tickets: $30

A 12-piece Afro-funk band, 18 artists, roaming performers, performance art and of course food and wine come together to celebrate all aspects of Whistler’s lush art community at the 11th annual ARTrageous party Nov. 9 at Dusty’s in Creekside as part of Cornucopia celebrations — Whistler’s biggest food and wine celebration Nov. 9 to 12.

“It’s a party to celebrate the arts of Whistler,” said organizer Ali Richmond of the Whistler Arts Council. “We are going to focus on every aspect of art, performers, art galleries and live music — a little bit of everything for everyone.”

An art gallery will be hosted on the upstairs level of Dusty’s, showcasing the work of established fine artists Debra MacArthur, Theresa Mura, Dave Petko, Lynn Pocklington, Daniel Poisson, Erin Sieber, Andrew Smith, Josee St. Amour, Vanessa Stark, Oliver Roy, Corinna Haight, Lindsay McLennan, Wim Tewinkel and Stan Matwychuk. Local photographers will also display work including Mark Richards, Greg Eymundson, Bruce Rowles, Blake Jorgenson and Creagh Hawthorne. Artisans displaying their wares include Caroline Miller, Kate Power and Mike Tyler.

Along with an appreciation of art, don’t forget to bring a credit card to purchase displayed art which is all for sale.

Artwork will come off the walls and shelves with artists in action at the show. Look for live glass blowing from Duane Perrett, painting from Chili Thom and Stan Matwychuk and body-air brushing by local artists.

Dean Cote will also host the Experience a Portrait Experiment where guests are invited to step into a studio for a picture with plenty of atmosphere and props to get silly with. Photos will be available for purchase and the images will also run throughout the night in a slideshow at the party.

The party assaults all the senses with DJ Vinyl Ritchie on deck along with the 12-piece groovin’ juggernaut Five Alarm Funk.

The Vancouver band is a rhythm machine that drives out a delirium-inducing performance featuring searing guitar leads and horn solos wailing over a four-man percussion maelstrom. The costumed, high-energy stage show has performed in clubs, concert halls and festivals throughout B.C. Wacky and wild, the funked up jazz band knows how to pack a dance floor.

Local restaurants will provide finger foods and in keeping with Cornucopia, the wine will flow well into the night.

The Arty Farty Bus will shuttle guests from the Whistler Village taxi loop beside Moguls Coffee Shop to Creekside, starting at 9 p.m. and running until 2 a.m. Transportation is free.

Tickets are $30. Whistler Arts Council members get a special Friends of WAC price by calling 604-938-9221.
