This holiday season Starbucks Coffee Canada is reviving its
national book drive, with drop bins across the country accepting new and
unwrapped children’s books. The books will be distributed to schools, libraries
and other literacy organizations throughout the year.
Last year the Gift of Words book drive collected more than
32,000 books across Canada and over 12,000 books in B.C. This year the goal is
to collect 35,000 books nationally and more than 13,000 in B.C.
This year Starbucks has also partnered with ABC Canada Literacy
Foundation. Visitors to the website,
www.abc-canada.org
,
can find and buy books, with a portion of proceeds going to the organization.
Book drops will be in Starbucks locations until Dec. 26.
Mountain FM hosting breakfast
Mountain FM will host its third annual Christmas Breakfast Dec.
7 at the Westin Resort & Spa, supporting local area food banks and
Christmas hamper programs.
Morning show host Mike Ciccone will broadcast live from the
hotel lobby, from 5:30 to 9 a.m., inviting people to come to the hotel and
donate a new toy, non-perishable food item or cash. In return for a donation,
people will receive a complimentary buffet breakfast from the Westin.
Donations will go to the Squamish Community Christmas Care,
Whistler Community Services, Pemberton & Area Christmas Hamper Program, and
the Lil’wat Christmas Bureau.
Local entertainment will also be on hand, including children’s choral groups from Pemberton, Whistler and Squamish.
