Christmas light-up for the troops

Fire hall gathering includes treats, tree

Whistler fire hall’s Douglas fir on Village Gate Boulevard will be the gathering point Monday, Dec. 11 for anyone wanting to show support for Canadian troops stationed overseas.

A tree-lighting ceremony will include hot chocolate and cookies served in the fire hall.

Local resident Mike Thaxter, whose son Chris returned this year from a stint in Afghanistan, will switch on the lights.

Everyone in the community is invited to the 5:30 p.m. celebration hosted by Mayor Ken Melamed and the municipality.
