Some of the biggest names, and biggest mouths, in Whistler will go head to head on Thursday, Jan. 11 when the Whistler Museum and Archives hosts the first Icon Gone — described as a “verbal gladiator match that will pit them against each other in a competition over Whistler’s greatest icon.”
In the 2004-05 winter the CBC had a major hit on its hands when it held a nation-wide contest to vote for the Greatest Canadian. The winner was Tommy Douglas, the prairie politician that, among other things, is credited with securing Canada’s public health care program.
The Icon Gone night will coincide with the Museum and Archives’ master plan open house, with the latest information on the organization’s efforts to collect and display Whistler’s history.
The Icon Gone takes place from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Jan. 11 at Millennium Place, and is free to the public. A final list of icon debaters will be announced shortly.
