RMOW surveying residents, second-home owners

Results measure performance against Whistler 2020 priorities

The Resort Municipality of Whistler is conducting its annual survey of residents and second homeowners on a range of topics.

Survey results will measure performance towards the priorities identified in Whistler 2020 (whistler2020.ca), the vision and comprehensive sustainability plan, and explore in a little more detail what residents are looking for in the realm of arts, culture and heritage offerings, learning opportunities, community decision making and getting around the community.

Residents and second-home owners will be telephoned, while seasonal residents will be surveyed onsite in the village, Creekside and Nesters. The survey will take place through to Jan. 26. It was designed to provide information to the municipality without replication, as well as minimize the participants’ time.

“We hope that our permanent and seasonal residents and second home owners will take the time to complete the surveys if they are called or approached in the village,” said Mike Vance, the municipality’s general manager of community initiatives. “The information we gather is vital to the success of our monitoring program, which provides quality information for decision making, increases accountability and ensures transparency.”

This years survey began Jan. 11 and results will be available in early March. Participants are anonymous and their individual responses are confidential. Last years results can currently be viewed a the Whistler2020 Website www.whistler2020.ca.

The survey will be conducted by InterVISTAS Consulting, with the research directed by Dr. Joe Kelly, a graduate of Simon Fraser University.   Dr. Kelly has facilitated numerous studies in Whistler during his academic and professional years and has a unique understanding of Whistler and the tourism industry.
