What:     Special olympics winter sports day All potential Special Olympians are welcome to come out and have fun cross country skiing and snowshoeing. No charge.

When: Saturday January 27, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Where: Lost Lake Warming Hut

What: Scrabble tournament The library’s annual scrabble tournament is for all ages and there are great prizes for the taking! Bring your own game if you can. Drop-in for $5 per person.

When: Sunday January 28, 4-9 p.m.

Where: Whistler Public Library

What: birken winter fest The festival will be a casual family pot luck with hot dogs, hot chocolate, a fire, activities for kids and skating and skiing, provided the lake is solidly iced over. Follow Gates Creek Road from the Highway to the Darcy end of Gates Lake. Contact Mike at 604-452-3241.

What: luna - floor hockey No experience is needed to play the co-ed games. Bring sports clothing and non-marking gym sneakers. All equipment will be provided. Take the #43 bus. Entry is $5/$3.

What: Out of bounds Featuring some of the region’s most talented photographers, don’t miss Out of Bounds - Tales from the Backcountry which runs throughout the month of February. The opening reception is free and open to the public and the photographers will be there to answer questions.

What: luna - FULL MOON SNOWSHOE This hike, which is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Whistler, includes a night-lit, guided tour on Blackcomb by Outdoor Adventures guides, snowshoes, fresh air, and hot chocolate. The hike starts with a gondola ride and ends in the village. Space is limited. Call 604-935-8372 before Wed. Jan. 31 to reserve a spot. Cost is $10/$8.
