Travel Advisory : New Snow has accumulated above 2,000 metres while the surface below 2,000 metres is rain affected. Extensive avalanche activity from the past few days should be evident at all elevations, with solar warming adding to the already stressed snowpack.
Avalanche Activity:
Numerous
size 2 slab avalanches were triggered on Tuesday. Start zones at all elevations
and on all aspects were reacting easily to triggers, and even low frequency
start zones were producing significant results. Solar warming is likely to
trigger loose wet avalanche activity. Cornices will weaken considerably with
the continued mild temperatures and are expected to fail.
Snowpack : About 30 centimetres of somewhat moist new snow has accumulated over the 10 to 30 centimetre slabs that were loaded into start zones late last week. A layer of loose soft snow is sandwiched between these upper layers and the old, stiff wind-affected surface.
Weather : A weak and mild system will bring some light precipitation to our area on Thursday. A ridge is expected to build in the wake of this brief weather event, maintaining mostly clear skies and continued mild temperatures through the weekend.
Travel with a partner and be equipped and prepared for self-rescue. Watch out for winch-cats or snowmobile traffic if you re-enter the area after operating hours.
